Did you know that UI Board Member, Rev. Fr. Ed Dura is the 11th Pastor of St. Patrick Church, San Francisco, CA?
Fr. Ed’s installation last March 24, 2007 was officiated by Most Rev. George H. Niederauer, the Archbishop of San Francisco.
Fr. Ed is originally from San Juan, Iriga City.
The Iriga Bicol Association of America (IBAA) will host the celebration of this year’s Our Lady Virgin Penafrañcia annual fiesta in San Francisco Bay Area beginning September 15.
Irigueños have hosted the celebration several times since 1974. The 2007 events will include mass, procession on foot and by boat and picnic. The festivities will be capped by dinner and dance on September 29.
The devotees of Penafrañcia in the Bay Area are composed of a host of Bicolanos, including relatives and friends of the members of the Bay Area Bicol Association (BABA) and the Ateneo de Naga Alumni Association, townmates from Camarines Norte, Calabanga, Goa , Iriga, Libmanan, Libon, Nabua, Naga (Metropolitan), Oas, Sorsogon, Tiwi, Legaspi-Daraga and many more.
First of all, I would like to acknowledge and commend the people behind the completion of this website. This is such a wonderful avenue for every Irigueno to be unconditionally involved and to feel a sense of belonging.
In behalf of the IBAA (Iriga Bicol Association of America), and as the Overall Coordinator of the Medical Mission 2007 in Iriga City and vicinities, I would like to invite everyone to “Share their hearts and helping hands”, for this venture. The Medical Mission in 2006 by the UII was a great success in terms of achieving its major goals, however, there are still lots of unfinished projects like deworming, improvement of livelihood thru “Plant a tree”, preventative medicine, visual and dental health. etc. One of the goals for this year MM is to continue the work that we have started last year and somehow link them to our projects this year. If we all work together and share the same aspirations, success is imminent.
If you are interested to become a volunteer, you can contact me at m_delasllagas@sbcglobal.net or Dr. Mayette Almazan at Almz3@aol.com.
Last Saturday July 22 (Manila time), our dear friend Judge Dondon Mirando passed on quietly at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Philippines. Just about a month ago, we suddenly lost another good friend, retired General Efren Orbon from a coronary by pass surgery.
Dondon and Efren are indeed a great loss to Irigueños.
The Judge fought hard to combat his illness because he was young and full of life. Those who knew him well surely have fond memories because he was a good man and the best, so to speak. The Guy Jesters owe him a debt of gratitude for the many wonderful things he did for the Frat in the continuity of its existence, helping the members in times of need and acting as legal adviser all through the years.
On the other hand, in response to the typhoon Reming disaster that visited our town recently, the General was among those who spearheaded Guy Jesters’ relief operations to Iriga benefiting hundreds of families.
Dondon, a Crusader and Efren, a Plebian, were both leaders of the Jesters family.
Let’s pray for Dondon and Efren and continue to console their loved ones.
Guy Eddie Nepo
